2014 DOMAINE DE BORDES Cotes de Gascogne MERLOT
There is nothing wrong with this wine; it does just not taste ‘right’!
Since bottling this 2014 vintage Merlot it seems to have lost its ‘plummy’ Merlot fruit flavours and developed a little more acidity than is expected. The wine still has that lovely hint of cinnamon and cloves that when balanced with the plummy Merlot fruit flavours, has in the past, made this wine so attractive.
Just before Christmas I contacted Christian Morel, owner of Chateau de Bordes, and he told me that his Irish importer was having the same problem. He has tested the wine against his own stock, bottles with corks, not screw tops, (it’s only us that have the screw tops) and his wine is fine. So he has very kindly said he will replace the stock with his 2015 Vintage (which supposed to be very good) later in February. In the mean time I have stock available as Cooking wine; the cost covers the HMRC import tax, transport costs and Lloyds Bank charges.
